Description

“To Tommy my son, Merry Christmas from Dad.”  You will receive two 1917 dated postcards and an embroidered large handkerchief sent from Salisbury Plains in United Kingdom, back to Australia from an ANZAC soldier to his son Tommy Smith for Christmas. Under Salisbury Plains  lies a network of training tunnels that prepared the British, Australian & New Zealand soldiers for trench warfare of the First World War, including a complete replica of parts of France & Belgium.  The handkerchief has age related staining.  It’s been folded & in storage away from the light for almost 100 years, which is why the colours are still so strong in the embroidered threads.  Handkerchief measures 35cm square.
