Description

In it’s current cut down state it measures 30cm x 25.5cm.  It had been used as the backing board for a framed picture of an Irish Setter.  The setter was featured in the Sunday Telegraph 15th June, 1941 newspaper.  The flip side of the setter was a very interesting piece of social history on England prepares for gas attack.

The Victor Coffee Essence Hard Cardboard Retailers promotional sign has had a lacquer wash brushed over it to preserve the board, which is what all those wavy lines are you can see.  The artwork for the advert is by Harry J Weston who was born in Tasmania in 1874 & died in 1955.  He is one of Australia’s most famous World War Poster designers.  His WWI work included “Were you there then?” and “We took the hill, come and help us keep it.”  He is also famous for his beach and harbour scenes.

This listing is for the Coffee Essence Board only.
