Description

German WHW Winter Charity Relief ‘Tinnie’ Badge dated 1939.  Made from heavy pressed paper, it has a silver pressed foil covering over the top.  There is a little part of this foil covering missing from the centre rim of the Wehrmacht soldiers helmet.  During the 1930’s & 1940’s in Germany charity badges were sold for a few pfennigs to raise funds for those in need & later to support the war effort.  These charity badges are little pieces of social history & remarkable survivors in this condition.  Many were produced in series of six to twelve, to encourage German citizens to collect them all.  A different series was released every week.  Some were Nationwide, like this one, others were regional. Badge measures approximately 4cm x 3cm.
