Vintage 1950’s – 1960’s Bitossi Tray measures 14.5cm x 14.5cm x 3cm in height. It’s had a life – with tiny little flea bites here and there on top rim corners, but no significant chips, cracks or damage.
Vintage mid century Bitossi tray, made in Italy for Rosenthal Netter – an American company & importer of decorative arts and home accessories founded in 1950 by Irving & Florence Netter. Their selections were sold in high end department stores & speciality shops in the United States. They ceased trading in the late 1970’s. Italian company Bitossi was founded in 1921. Guido Bitossi founded the “Maioliche artistiche Guido Bitossi” factory, and focused factory production on traditional and classical styles of the past.
Starting from the early 1950s, the company’s evolution powerfully manifested itself in a modern vein under the artistic direction of Aldo Londi, a man with an innate creative and aesthetic sense, and a keen eye to the changes in the taste and the uniqueness of the Italian products. Londi entered Bitossi in 1946 and from that time on was the undisputed protagonist for more than fifty years, first as a painter, then as artistic director, and finally as tireless researcher of styles and examples to be emulated.
