Description

Vintage Mock Chicken Metal Drumstick Mould.  Circa 1940 – 1950’s.  Measures approximately 19cm x 10cm.

During WWII and post WWII when rationing was still in place in Australia, meat was an expensive & hard to acquire commodity.  Mock chicken was the answer.  What to do?  Mix onion, tomato, herbs with one egg & a tablespoon of butter (both these items were also on the ration list) to create a mixture that could be pressed into a mould and cooked.  The result?  It looked like chicken and if you closed your eyes it tasted like chicken.  Mock Chicken is fondly remembered as a tasty evening meal or topping for afternoon canapes.
