Tortoise Shell Musical Instrument. Measures 60cm in length x 15cm shell width. When discovered it had the middle wooden toggle snapped off & its fishing line strings were broken. A new middle toggle has been crafted & it has been restrung, so now it can be played. Please take note of the tear in the hide skin at the base of the instrument, which does not detract from its appeal or the sound it makes. Expertly crafted with love by a Pacific Islander or perhaps it is from the Congo? I’m guessing was purchased by a tourist, many decades ago, who packed it in their luggage and brought it back to Australia as a holiday souvenier. A quirky, functional curiosity for musically minded lovers of natural history.
