The Great Air Race Eight Coin Set
The Centenary of the Great Air Race from England to Australia commemorated in an eight coin collection in a metal tin, released by Royal Australian mint in 2019. In 1919 six Australian air crews and two Frenchmen took to the skies in rickety planes of timber and canvas, racing to become the first to fly from England to Australia. A booklet tells the stories of danger, drama and the unimaginable courage of the crews. Featured on the coins/cards are: Sopwith Wallaby, Vickers Viny, Alliance P2, Blackburn Kangaroo, Martinsyde A1, Airco DH9, Cauldron G4 and the eighth coin features a Great Air Race design.
Each $1 coin is uncirculated, measures 25mm diameter. There were 10,000 limited edition sets minted.
