Description

Bakelite early plastic container that once held a glass bottle of Onoto Ink.  The colours within this container suggest it was an ‘end of day’ creation, where all the colours were thrown into a pot at the end of the day and objects made from the mix, so as to not waste any materials.

The Onoto pen was invented by a mechanical engineer in 1905.  Onoto pens became very popular in Great Britain, because it was marketed as an ‘all British’ pen.  By 1915 one could purchase pencils, ink, diaries & writing paper under the same brand name.
