Description

Badges measure 2cm – 2.5cm in diameter.  A vaccine for polio was introduced in 1956 and it ended an epidemic of incurable viral disease, that mostly targeted children and could cause permanent paralysis and even death.  It was one of the most frightening diseases to affect Australians during the 20th century.  Stewart House was established in 1929 at the onset of the 1930’s Great Depresson.  It raised funds to overcome the effects of malnutrition in children and the unemployed.  Stewart House was registered as a hospital in 1939 and continues today to provide services to children in need – these days with overall wellness, including mental and emotional health.
