Set of Ladies Travel Buttons x 6, Vintage

LADIES TRAVEL SET.  Vintage set contains SIX PLASTIC BUTTONS; Hat, handkerchief, purse, slipper, crossed gloves, belt.  The belt is rare, since many sets came out with only the other five on a card.  Some sets were trimmed and some were plain.  This is a very popular set & in excellent condition.  Size is approx 18mm x 15mm.  Squared self-shanks.

Goofies or Goofy Buttons.  Realistic or Goofies are buttons (usually plastic) shaped like everyday objects. You can find flowers, food, circus, animals and even cartoon characters! Their hey-day came in 1930s to 1950s with the advent of the cheap plastic button. Many sets of Goofies were made which are now quite rare. Collecting these sets is a hobby for many people…..what can you find? Shirley says, “I have spent many years finding sets of Goofy Buttons.  You can see them on the ‘display only cards’ in the Cabinets of Curiosities at Morpeth Antique Centre, NSW.  If you are lucky you will find a set or a card of mixed Goofies there to purchase. They are becoming more collectable, higher in price, and very hard to find”.
