Royal Australian Navy Brooch

Likely WWII Era (as opposed to WWI) and made by an Australian Naval Recruit from mother of pearl shell. With time on their hands those on active service often occupied themselves creating little objects.  Trench art from spent bullet shells and badges, brooches and tokens from shell were then given to loved ones – mothers, girlfriends, wives.  For this reason this brooch may also be called a ‘sweetheart’ brooch.  It needs a little clean in the grooves…
