Johann Hermann started making teddy bears in Neufang near Sonneberg/Thuringen with all his family members helping him in 1907.  The company is almost as old as Steiff.

Oldest son Bernhard Hermann started his own business in 1912.  Sonneberg at the time was the world’s centre of toy manufacturing.

Bernhard had four sons, who all worked in the company.  In 1948 the family relocated the business to Hirschaid near Bamberg.

Since that time the prosperity of the toy factory continued to grow.  When Bernhard died in 1959 the company continued under the management of his sons.

Today the company is run by Bernhard’s two grand daughters, who continue to produce mohair limited editions at the factory in Germany and a plush range is produced in Asia/Pacific under strict quality control.  Hermann red still use the red logo trademark on all their products.
