Description

Dated 1813 on one side and 1939 on the reverse.  The Knights Cross of the Iron Cross was the most coveted medal of all Third Reich Germany’s decorations.  They were awarded to holders of the Iron Cross, to recognise outstanding bravery in the German Army.  The original medal was designed by the Neoclassical architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel, and reflects the cross of the Teutonic Knights in the Middle Ages, which was also the emblem of Frederick the Great.  Despite being a Prussian decoration, it was widely awarded to the citizens of other states of the German Empire.  This Medal is a reproduction.
