Each campaign badge measures 2cm diameter.  On the back the history of the campaign is outlined.

‘The idea that conflict would only be fought on faraway battlefields was shattered when the Second World War brought the horror of war and threat of invasion to our door.  When the Japanese war machine cut a swathe through the Pacific, a rag tag and hastily cobbled together resistance was pitched against them in the jungles of Papua New Guinea.  The paper thin resistance at Kokoda was as close as land warfare has ever come, and it was only for the small band of poorly trained militia and their loyal native bearers and guardians, the Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels, the Japanese advance was stopped.  Against all odds, they desperately held on in the mud and unforgiving terrain until they were reinforced.  The refusal of the Australians to fall at Kokoda became a turning point in the War.’
