Australian Charity Badge, purchased to support British sailors or merchants. It’s linked to the WWII sinking of British Liner SS Athenia in 1939. 41 ships were hit by enemy action and those on them who survived were cared for by the Sailors Society, at the height of WWII. They assisted seafarers and merchant seamen. Donations were made in Australia to support the cause. Badge measures 2cm diameter.
